In a missile strike on the central Israeli city of Tira, 19 individuals were injured, including a young man with shrapnel wounds, according to local police. The attack occurred early Saturday morning as three projectiles were reportedly fired from Lebanon into central Israel, escalating tensions in the region.
The Israeli Magen David Adom (MDA) emergency medical service confirmed that of the injured, four were in moderate condition and were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment. Footage shared by the Israeli Foreign Ministry depicted smoke and flames pouring from a building, with emergency responders rapidly arriving on the scene.
“This is the result of a direct hit of a Hezbollah rocket on a building in the Israeli Arab town of Tira, injuring 19 civilians,” stated the Foreign Ministry. In their response, they reiterated a commitment to dismantling Hezbollah, which has been engaged in hostilities alongside Hamas in the ongoing conflict in Gaza.
The Israeli army reported intercepting some of the incoming projectiles. Tira, primarily inhabited by Arab residents, is situated about 25 kilometers (15 miles) northeast of Tel Aviv, near the occupied West Bank.
The conflict, which has intensified since Hamas’s attack on October 7, 2023, has now spilled over into Lebanon, where Israeli air strikes have targeted Hezbollah positions. According to Israeli reports, at least 63 people have died on the Israeli side due to cross-border exchanges with Hezbollah since the outbreak of violence. Recent attacks have also affected northern Israel, where a rocket strike in Metula killed seven people, including four Thai farm workers.
The October attack by Hamas has led to a significant loss of life, with over 1,200 deaths reported in Israel, primarily among civilians. In retaliation, Israeli military operations in Gaza have resulted in a staggering death toll, with estimates indicating that around 43,259 Palestinians have died, most of whom are civilians, according to the Hamas-run health ministry, a figure the United Nations considers credible.
