A missile strike in the Israeli Arab town of Tira resulted in 19 injuries, including a young man in his twenties suffering from shrapnel wounds. The incident occurred early Saturday morning, following reports of three projectiles being fired from Lebanon into central Israel.
According to Israel’s Magen David Adom (MDA) emergency medical service, four of the injured are in moderate condition and were transported to local hospitals for treatment. The police confirmed that the strike impacted a building in the predominantly Arab town, located approximately 25 kilometers (15 miles) northeast of Tel Aviv.
The Israeli Foreign Ministry shared footage on social media showing flames and smoke pouring from the building, along with emergency responders rushing to the scene. In their statement, the ministry attributed the attack to a direct hit from a Hezbollah rocket, emphasizing the necessity of dismantling the militant group.
The Israeli army reported that some of the incoming projectiles were intercepted. This escalation in violence is part of a broader conflict that has spread from the Gaza Strip to Lebanon, where Israel has been conducting airstrikes against Hezbollah, an ally of Hamas.
The ongoing conflict has already claimed significant casualties on both sides. Israeli figures indicate that at least 63 individuals have died in Israel since cross-border exchanges with Hezbollah intensified following Hamas’s deadly assault on October 7, 2023. In a separate incident on Thursday, rocket fire from Lebanon resulted in the deaths of seven people in Metula, northern Israel, including four Thai farm workers.
In the aftermath of Hamas’s October attack, which led to 1,206 fatalities in Israel, primarily civilians, Israel’s military response has reportedly resulted in the deaths of 43,259 Palestinians in Gaza, with most casualties being civilians. These figures have been provided by the Hamas-run health ministry, which is deemed reliable by the United Nations.
