A 24-year-old woman, Pan Xiaoting from China, has tragically died from overeating during a live streaming session. The autopsy revealed that Xiaoting’s death resulted from severe gastrointestinal distress due to excessive consumption of food. Her stomach was found to be filled with undigested food, and her abdomen was severely deformed.
Before her death, Xiaoting participated in extreme eating challenges as part of her live broadcasts. For more than 10 hours each day, she consumed large quantities of food, attempting to eat over 10 kilograms per meal. These broadcasts were popular with viewers who tipped her for her efforts.
Xiaoting, a former waitress, turned to live streaming after witnessing a friend’s success in the field. Initially attracting only a small audience, she eventually gained a following, earning money through viewer tips and gifts. As her fan base grew, she began undertaking increasingly extreme eating challenges, consuming multiple kilograms of food in a single sitting and trying unconventional dishes.
Her health deteriorated after a prior hospitalization for gastrointestinal bleeding, which was linked to her binge eating. Despite this, Xiaoting resumed her extreme eating challenges shortly after her discharge, which ultimately led to her death.
The case has sparked a discussion about the risks associated with extreme eating broadcasts and raised concerns about the health implications of such practices. Experts and viewers alike are urging for more awareness and caution regarding the potential dangers of unhealthy eating habits in pursuit of online fame and financial gain.
