At least 37 people have been killed and over two dozen injured in sectarian clashes between the Alizai and Bagan tribes in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, officials reported on Saturday. The violence erupted in the Kurram district, near the Afghanistan border, following a deadly attack on a passenger van convoy near Parachinar on Thursday, which claimed 47 lives.
Violence Escalates
The ongoing conflict has seen heavy and automatic weapons used by both sides, causing significant destruction to homes and shops. As violence intensifies, residents of affected villages have been forced to flee to safer areas.
Senior officials, including the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa law minister, chief secretary, and inspector general of police, have been dispatched to the region to address the crisis. Local authorities have also sent police and administration officials to the conflict zone via helicopter to quell tensions and mediate between the tribes.
