Serial Killer Arrested in Kenya After Confessing to 42 Murders, Including Wife

Kenyan authorities have apprehended a suspected serial killer, Collins Jumaisi Khalusha, who confessed to the gruesome murders of 42 women, with dismembered bodies found discarded in a Nairobi rubbish dump. The arrest, made during the Euro 2024 football final, shocked the nation and underscored the horrors of gender-based violence in the country.

Collins Jumaisi Khalusha, aged 33, was taken into custody near a Nairobi bar in the early hours of Monday. According to Acting Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja, Khalusha’s arrest followed a joint operation by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and the National Police Service, triggered by the discovery of nine mutilated bodies at an abandoned quarry in the Mukuru slum.

“We are dealing with a serial killer, a psychopathic serial killer who has no respect for human life,” stated Mohamed Amin, head of the DCI, during a press briefing. Amin disclosed that Khalusha had admitted to the murders occurring between 2022 and July 11, 2024. Shockingly, Khalusha claimed his first victim was his wife, whom he allegedly strangled and dismembered before dumping her remains at the same site.

The suspect’s capture was aided by the analysis of a victim’s mobile phone, leading officers to intercept Khalusha as he attempted to lure another potential victim. Police discovered incriminating evidence at Khalusha’s residence, located a mere 100 meters from the crime scene, including a machete, nylon sacks, rope, industrial rubber gloves, and personal items belonging to the victims.

“The suspect confessed to luring, killing, and disposing of 42 female bodies at the dumping site,” Amin confirmed. Autopsies on the victims, eight of whom have been identified as female, are scheduled for Monday.

Following the shocking revelations, Kenya’s State Department For Gender and Affirmative Action condemned the “horrific act” and called for intensified efforts against gender-based violence. The incident has also raised scrutiny on the police, with the Independent Police Oversight Authority (IPOA) investigating possible police negligence or involvement, given the proximity of the dumpsite to a police station.

President William Ruto’s administration faces mounting pressure amid widespread protests and concerns over law enforcement’s response to such heinous crimes. The discovery of the bodies comes in the wake of Kenya recording its highest number of femicide cases in 2022, according to a UN report.

As the investigation unfolds, Kenyan authorities remain committed to thoroughly examining the crime scene and ensuring justice for the victims. Khalusha is expected to appear in court on Tuesday to face charges related to multiple counts of murder and other offenses.
