The Andhra Pradesh Cabinet, led by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, has approved a new excise policy that introduces a private retail system for the sale of liquor. This policy is set to be implemented from October 1, aiming to enhance management efficiency within the state’s liquor retail sector.
At a press conference held at the state secretariat, Information and Public Relations Minister K. Parthasarathy outlined the key features of the new policy. The government plans to allocate 10 percent of the 3,736 retail outlets to the toddy-tappers community. The initiative is part of a broader strategy to ensure the availability of quality liquor at reasonable prices and promote transparency in the licensing process.
In addition to the new liquor policy, the Cabinet approved several other significant measures. These include:
- 33 Percent Reservation for Backward Classes (BCs): The Cabinet has resolved to provide 33 percent reservation for BCs in legislative bodies, aiming to enhance representation and inclusivity.
- Artificial Intelligence University and Skilling Academy: The establishment of an Artificial Intelligence university and a skilling academy is set to be a cornerstone of the state’s educational and technological advancement.
- Renaming of Bhogapuram Airport: The Cabinet has decided to rename Bhogapuram Airport to Alluri Seetharamaraju International Airport in honor of the freedom fighter.
- Vision Document Renaming: The vision document “Vikasitha Andhra 2047” will be renamed as the “Swarnandhra Vision Document,” with its official release scheduled for November 1.
- Polavaram Project: The Cabinet has approved the continuation of the existing agency’s work on the new diaphragm wall of the Polavaram Project. New works will be conducted transparently through a bidding process.
These decisions reflect the state government’s commitment to governance reform, infrastructural development, and inclusive growth.
