In a stark portrayal of the toll of ongoing conflict, satellite images analyzed by the UN Satellite Centre (UNOSAT) highlight the extensive destruction in Gaza following Israel’s response to Hamas’ attacks last year. The significant loss of agricultural land is equally alarming. The report states that 79% of Gaza’s cropland has been destroyed, severely impacting food production in an area that houses over 2.3 million residents in a region smaller than a quarter of Delhi.

As families fled the devastation, many have relocated south to escape the bombings, transporting their belongings on carts and trucks amid relentless airstrikes. The UN report emphasizes that during conflicts, natural vegetation is particularly vulnerable, contributing to soil erosion and adverse health impacts on the population.
