8 Dead, 17 Injured in Stabbing Spree at Chinese College; Days After Fatal Hit-and-Run

In a tragic incident, eight people were killed, and 17 others injured after a 21-year-old former student launched a stabbing spree at the Wuxi Vocational Institute of Arts and Technology in Wuxi, Jiangsu province, China. The attack occurred on Saturday evening and has left the nation in shock.

    Suspect’s Motive

According to local police, the suspect, identified as a former student of the institute, had failed his graduation exams and returned to the campus to “express his anger” through violence. Authorities confirmed that the suspect has confessed to the crime. Emergency services were deployed promptly to treat the injured and offer support to those affected.

    Recent String of Violent Incidents

This attack follows another grim event earlier in the week, where 35 people lost their lives, and 43 were injured after a 62-year-old man drove his car into a crowd in Zhuhai, southern China.

    Motive Behind Zhuhai Hit-and-Run

Police investigations revealed that the driver, identified as Fan, was motivated by dissatisfaction over property division following his divorce. Eyewitnesses described the chaos at the scene, with some narrowly escaping the vehicle’s path. Fan attempted to flee but was apprehended after injuring himself with a knife inside his car. He remains in a coma due to self-inflicted injuries and has yet to be interrogated.

    Rising Concerns Over Public Safety

These back-to-back incidents have raised concerns about public safety and mental health issues in China. Authorities are working to provide follow-up care to the victims and their families while emphasizing the need for vigilance against such attacks.

These tragedies underscore the importance of addressing underlying grievances and improving mechanisms for conflict resolution to prevent such violent outbursts in the future.
