Indians Face Spike in Dubai Visa Rejections Under New Rules

Indians applying for Dubai tourist visas are experiencing a significant increase in rejection rates since the United Arab Emirates (UAE) implemented stricter application requirements. What was once an approval rate of nearly 99% has now dropped, with at least 5-6 out of every 100 applications being declined daily, according to a report by The Times of India (TOI).

New Requirements Raising Bar for Approval

Dubai’s emigration department recently introduced stringent visa requirements, mandating applicants to submit:

    • Hotel booking documents with QR codes
    • Confirmed return tickets
    • Additional proof of accommodation for those staying with relatives

These new measures are aimed at ensuring greater accountability, but they have led to significant challenges for applicants, with even meticulously prepared requests being turned down.

    Impact on Travellers

Travel agencies report unprecedented rejection rates. Nikhil Kumar, Director of Passio Travels Pvt Ltd, noted, “Earlier, rejection rates were just 1-2%. Now, even with confirmed flight tickets and hotel bookings, we’re seeing 5-6 rejections per day out of 100 applications.”

Rishikesh Pujari of Vihar Travels shared a similar experience. “A family of four, with all documents in place, saw their application rejected. Such rejections are not only disheartening but also financially damaging,” he said.

Vijay Thakkar, Director of Hasmukh Travels, revealed cases where applicants staying with relatives faced rejection despite meeting all new requirements. He added that one such case resulted in a family incurring over ₹34,000 in losses due to visa fees and ticket cancellations.

    New Visa Policy Details

Key changes to Dubai’s visa application process include:

    • Mandatory submission of hotel bookings and return tickets during application
    • Proof of sufficient financial resources:
      • AED 5,000 (~₹1.14 lakh) for a two-month visa
      • AED 3,000 (~₹68,000) for a three-month visa

Previously, such documents were required only if requested by airport officials.

    Uncertainty for Indian Travellers

The stricter rules have caused uncertainty among Indian travellers, impacting plans and leading to financial losses. Travel agents and applicants are urging greater clarity and transparency in the visa application process to minimize disruptions.

With Dubai remaining a popular destination for Indian tourists, the new policies could have long-term implications on travel trends and industry dynamics.
