Mandhana’s Heroics Guide India to Landmark T20I Victory

    -

    India Posts Another Towering Total

India Women continued their high-scoring momentum in the first T20I against England, registering 210 runs for 5 wickets at Trent Bridge. This performance follows their 217 against West Indies and stands as India’s second-highest total in Women’s T20Is, and their best ever away from home.

    England Succumb to Record Defeat

The English side was unable to counter the Indian onslaught and were defeated by a margin of 97 runs, their worst loss by runs in Women’s T20I history. The previous biggest defeat came against Australia, by 93 runs in 2019.

Captain Smriti Lights Up Trent Bridge

Skipper Smriti Mandhana delivered a record-breaking performance, scoring a majestic 112 runs, surpassing Harmanpreet Kaur’s previous best of 103 for the highest individual score by an Indian in Women’s T20Is. With 78 runs coming through boundaries (15 fours, 3 sixes), Mandhana also set a new Indian record for most boundary runs in an innings.

    Historic Triple for Mandhana

This innings added another historic feather to Mandhana’s cap — she is now the first Indian woman to score international centuries in Tests, ODIs, and T20Is. Globally, only four others have managed this rare feat: Heather Knight, Tammy Beaumont, Beth Mooney, and Laura Wolvaardt.

Middle Overs Explosion Sets the Tone

India’s most aggressive phase came during overs 7 to 16, where they amassed 124 runs, their highest in that phase ever. Among top-tier nations, only West Indies (125 vs Australia, 2023) have done better in those overs.

    Mandhana-Shafali Duo Sets a New T20I Standard

Mandhana and Shafali Verma added yet another 50+ partnership, their 21st overall in T20Is — now the most by any duo in Women’s T20Is, surpassing the previous record held by Australia’s Mooney and Healy (20).

    Spin Troubles for England

England’s spin unit had a forgettable outing, giving away 105 runs in 8 overs with an economy rate of 13.12, marking the worst spinner economy in Women’s T20I history (min. 8 overs). In contrast, India’s spinners were clinical, picking up 8 wickets in 10.5 overs while conceding just 72 runs.

    Debut Delight for Shree Charani

On debut, Shree Charani impressed with the ball, finishing with a brilliant 4-wicket haul for just 12 runs, making it the second-best bowling debut by an Indian woman in T20Is.

India Enters Elite List with Back-to-Back 200+ Totals

This performance made India only the third women’s team in T20I cricket — after Indonesia and Argentina — to score over 200 in two consecutive matches, a milestone unmatched by other Full Member nations.
