Former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan has petitioned Pakistan’s anti-terrorism court in Rawalpindi, seeking permission to meet his sons, Qasim and Sulaiman, who are currently incarcerated in Adiala Jail. According to a report by The Express Tribune on Wednesday, the court has instructed the government and jail administration to respond to Khan’s request by July 5, with the hearing adjourned until July 7.
In his petition, Khan underscored that meeting his sons is his constitutional and legal right, emphasizing the familial nature of the meeting. He stated, “I wish to meet my sons, Qasim and Sulaiman. This is my constitutional and legal right.”
The former Prime Minister, who has been serving a three-year jail term for corruption and an additional ten-year sentence on charges of leaking state secrets, denounced all allegations against him as politically motivated. Khan was jailed on January 30, with accusations related to leaking secret diplomatic correspondence during his tenure as Prime Minister.
During a recent statement released on social media, Khan urged the public to express their discontent through peaceful means, referring to injustices allegedly committed against him. He emphasized, “Tell them that we are not sheep that can be driven with a stick.”
Former foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi, who is the vice chairman of Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party, also faces a ten-year prison sentence in the same case. The charges stem from Khan’s public appearance in March 2022, where he displayed what he claimed was evidence of a foreign conspiracy against his government, shortly before being ousted through a parliamentary vote of no confidence.
