A Boeing 737 aircraft operated by Air Sénégal skidded off the runway at Dakar’s Blaise Diagne airport, resulting in injuries to ten passengers. The incident occurred during the plane’s departure for Bamako, Mali.
The flight, chartered by Air Sénégal and operated by TransAir, was carrying 85 passengers, including two pilots and four cabin crew members. Minister El Malick Ndiaye confirmed that ten individuals sustained injuries and are currently receiving medical treatment, while the rest have been provided accommodations for rest.
Footage circulating on social media purportedly shows the plane, adorned with the Transair logo, resting on the grass with its wing covered in fire-suppressing foam. However, the authenticity of the video has not been verified.
Blaise Diagne airport initiated an investigation into the incident, activating emergency protocols for passenger evacuation. The airport is temporarily closed, with plans for reopening expected in the coming hours.
This event adds to recent incidents involving Boeing aircraft. In Turkey, a Corendon Airlines Boeing 737 experienced a burst tire during landing at Gazipasa airport, resulting in the evacuation of 184 passengers and six crew members. Another incident involved a FedEx Express Boeing 767 cargo plane’s emergency landing at Istanbul Airport due to a malfunctioning front landing gear. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in either of these incidents.
