In a shocking incident on Wednesday, an attack on the headquarters of Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI), located approximately 40 kilometers north of Ankara, resulted in the deaths of five individuals and left 22 others injured. The assault involved two attackers, a man and a woman, who were later described as “neutralized” by authorities.
CCTV footage from the scene captured the attackers, dressed in all black and armed with what appeared to be assault rifles, as they carried out the deadly operation. Video evidence also revealed a significant explosion at the TAI headquarters, further escalating the chaos of the attack. Reports indicate that the assailants killed a taxi driver before commandeering his vehicle to facilitate their assault on the defense firm.
Turkey’s Vice President Cevdet Yilmaz confirmed that four of the deceased were employees of TAI, while the fifth victim was the taxi driver. In the wake of the attack, there has been no immediate claim of responsibility. However, Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya suggested that Kurdish militants were likely behind the violence, stating, “The way in which this action was carried out is very probably linked to the PKK (Kurdistan Workers’ Party).”
President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who was attending talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin at the time of the incident, condemned the attack as “heinous.” He emphasized that the assault targeted Turkey’s defense industry and posed a threat to the nation’s survival and peace. “The terrorist attack against TAI, one of the locomotive organizations of the Turkish defense industry, is a vile attack targeting the survival of our country, the peace of our nation, and our defense initiatives that are the symbol of our ‘Fully Independent Turkey’ ideal,” he expressed on social media platform X.
