In a recent incident in Upstate New York, three Indian nationals were among four individuals arrested for attempting to enter the United States illegally from Canada. The group, which included a woman, was apprehended by US Border Patrol agents on March 12th.
The arrest took place after Border Patrol agents assigned to the Buffalo Station observed the four individuals jumping off a moving freight train on the International Railroad Bridge in Buffalo. Upon investigation, it was determined that all four were undocumented non-citizens.
The men in the group left behind the injured woman, who became immobile due to an injury during the attempt. She received immediate first aid from Erie County Sheriff’s deputies and US Customs and Border Protection officers (CBP) before being transported to a local medical center for further treatment.
Border Patrol agents identified the woman and two men as Indian nationals, while the third man was from the Dominican Republic. The three men are currently undergoing processing for removal and are detained in the Batavia Federal Detention Facility awaiting a deportation hearing under Sections 212 and 237 of the Immigration and Nationality Act.
Chief Patrol Agent Thomas G. Martin of the US Border Patrol Buffalo Sector commended the efforts of law enforcement in protecting the Western New York area. He stated, “This is a great example of how our Border Patrol agents, CBP officers, and law enforcement partners work tirelessly to protect the Western New York area.”
