Hostage Release Details
The released hostages—Omer Shem Tov, Omer Wenkert, and Eliya Cohen—were brought out by Hamas in the town of Nuseirat, where they were paraded on stage, holding release certificates before being transferred to Red Cross officials. A convoy then transported them from the ceremony.
According to The Times of Israel, Omer Shem Tov’s father, Malki Shem Tov, shared his relief and surprise at his son’s upbeat demeanor despite being in captivity for 505 days. Speaking to Channel 12, he said, “Omer is thinner… but is upbeat, upbeat, the most positive-minded in the world.”
His brother echoed similar sentiments, stating, “He’s always, always positive.” A relative added that Omer’s warm and friendly nature helped him connect with people, even during his captivity.
Return to Israel
Following their release, the hostages crossed the border into Israel and arrived at an IDF facility for physical and psychological evaluation. The IDF confirmed that the freed individuals would undergo medical checkups and receive necessary care after their prolonged captivity.
