In a significant escalation of hostilities, Lebanon’s Hezbollah announced on Saturday that it had launched a series of rockets targeting an Israeli intelligence base near Tel Aviv. The attack took place in the early hours of the morning, with Hezbollah stating that the rockets were fired at approximately 2:30 AM local time (00:30 GMT) at the Glilot base, which is associated with Israel’s 8200 military intelligence unit.
This incident comes amidst a backdrop of heightened tensions between Hezbollah and Israel, which have engaged in cross-border exchanges of fire since Hamas’s attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, which ignited the ongoing Gaza war. Hezbollah has frequently made claims of targeting Israeli military installations, particularly asserting that they have aimed at the Glilot base on several occasions.
In addition to the strike on the intelligence facility, Hezbollah reported that it also launched rockets towards various locations in northern Israel, including the city of Safed, a site that has previously been a target.
The Israeli military responded by activating air raid sirens in response to what they described as “suspicious aerial targets” emanating from Lebanon. They indicated that the situation remained dynamic, with ongoing surveillance of the targets involved in the incident.
As tensions continue to simmer in the region, this latest attack underscores the volatile security situation along the Israel-Lebanon border, raising concerns about further escalations in the ongoing conflict.
