In light of the escalating conflict in the region, the Indian Embassy in Lebanon has issued a travel advisory urging Indian nationals to avoid all non-essential travel to Lebanon. This directive comes as tensions heighten following recent violent incidents involving Hezbollah and Israeli forces.
The embassy’s advisory emphasizes the need for caution and recommends that Indians currently in Lebanon limit their movements and maintain regular contact with the embassy for safety updates. The official communication, posted on social media platform X, includes contact information for the embassy: email cons.beirut@mea.gov.in and emergency phone number +961 7686 0128.
The advisory follows a recent escalation in violence, including a rocket attack on Golan Heights reportedly launched by Hezbollah, which resulted in the deaths of 12 children. In retaliation, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) conducted an airstrike in southern Lebanon that killed Fuad Shukr, a senior Hezbollah military commander. Shukr, a key figure in Hezbollah’s military operations, was reportedly involved in managing the group’s attacks against Israel, including the recent deadly strike in Majdal Shams.
The IDF’s statement highlighted Shukr’s significant role in overseeing Hezbollah’s advanced weaponry and his involvement in planning and executing attacks against Israel. The IDF described Shukr as a pivotal figure in Hezbollah’s strategic operations and a major target in the current conflict.
In response to the Israeli strike, both Hamas and the Houthi movement expressed condemnation. Hamas voiced solidarity with Hezbollah and Lebanon, while the Houthi political wing praised Hezbollah’s role in supporting Palestinians and criticized Arab regimes for their perceived inaction.
