Ludhiana, Punjab – In a significant breakthrough, the mastermind behind the ₹8.49 crore cash van robbery in Ludhiana has been apprehended in Uttarakhand, along with her husband. The Commissioner of Police, Mandeep Singh Sidhu, confirmed the arrest, marking a major development in the ongoing investigation.
Mandeep Kaur, also known as Mona, was identified as the key orchestrator of the audacious heist that took place at a cash management company’s office in New Rajguru Nagar. The robbery occurred a week ago, with the culprits escaping with a staggering sum of money.
The arrest of Mona and her husband, Jaswinder Singh, brings the total number of apprehended suspects in connection with the case to eight. Authorities have also managed to recover ₹5.75 crore in cash from the arrested individuals, with further recoveries expected from Mona and her husband.
The Ludhiana Police, along with the Counter Intelligence Unit, dedicated substantial efforts to solving the case, earning praise from Punjab’s Director General of Police (DGP). In a social media post, the DGP expressed his pride in the Ludhiana Police, commending their swift action in apprehending the fugitives within 100 hours.
The Ludhiana Police formed a specialized five-member Special Investigation Team (SIT), headed by Joint Commissioner of Police (JCP) Saumya Mishra, to diligently investigate the robbery. Earlier statements from the Commissioner of Police indicated suspicions that the actual amount stolen might be around ₹6.33 crore.
The cash van robbery in Ludhiana remains one of the largest heists witnessed in the city in recent memory. Armed robbers executed the daring act in the early hours of Saturday, making off with the substantial amount of money and the cash van itself. During the robbery, five employees, including two security guards, were held captive at the New Rajguru Nagar location.
With the arrest of the alleged mastermind and several other suspects, authorities hope to unravel the intricate details of the crime and bring all involved individuals to justice. The recovery of a significant portion of the stolen funds will provide further evidence for the ongoing investigation.
