Indian javelin superstar Neeraj Chopra has reclaimed the No. 1 spot in the world rankings, overtaking Grenadian thrower Anderson Peters. According to the latest World Athletics update, Neeraj now boasts 1445 points, pushing Peters into second place with 1431.
A Record-Breaking National Performance Boosts Ranking
A pivotal moment in Neeraj’s 2025 season came in May at the Doha Diamond League, where he hurled the javelin 90.23 metres, marking a new national record and becoming part of the prestigious 90m club. This was preceded by a confident start to the year, when he clinched gold at the Potch Invitational in South Africa.
Julian Weber and Arshad Nadeem Among the Top Five
Following Neeraj and Peters, Germany’s Julian Weber sits third, thanks to his world-leading throw of 91.06m recorded at the same Doha meet. Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem, the reigning Olympic champion, holds the fourth spot with 1370 points, while Czech javelin thrower Jakub Vadlejch is ranked fifth.
Four Straight Wins Over Anderson Peters in 2025
Neeraj has maintained a clear edge over Anderson Peters throughout this season, beating him in all four head-to-head competitions so far. Their last major reversal came in 2022 at the World Championships in Budapest, where Peters claimed gold and Chopra secured silver.
Currently, Neeraj leads Peters 16-5 in their final face-offs, proving his consistent superiority at the international level.
Back-to-Back Podium Finishes Reflect Season Form
Besides his Doha achievement, Neeraj placed second at the Janusz Kusocinski Memorial in Poland and then returned to the top with a win at the Paris Diamond League, throwing 88.16 metres. He further added to his trophy haul by winning the Ostrava Golden Spike, highlighting his incredible form this year.
