Israel launched a series of intense airstrikes in Gaza, leading to a devastating loss of more than 200 lives overnight, according to the Hamas-run health ministry in the besieged Palestinian territory.
The health ministry released a statement confirming the grim toll, stating, “More than 200 martyrs were reported in the overnight massacres.” This figure only encompasses Gaza City and the northern part of the Gaza Strip, highlighting the scale of the tragedy that unfolded.
Israel’s actions came in the wake of what it termed “significant” strikes as its military engaged with Hamas forces in the region. The situation persists despite UN aid agencies’ appeals for a ceasefire, decrying the rising number of civilian casualties in the ongoing month-long conflict.
Israeli forces have escalated their ground offensive in Gaza in response to Hamas attacks on October 7, which Israeli officials assert resulted in the deaths of 1,400 people, the majority of whom were civilians. Over 240 individuals were taken hostage in these incidents.
Subsequently, Israel has relentlessly bombarded the Gaza Strip and deployed ground troops. The health ministry in this Hamas-run Palestinian territory has reported a staggering death toll, with approximately 9,770 people losing their lives. Alarmingly, two-thirds of these casualties have been women and children.
As the conflict continues to escalate, the international community faces mounting pressure to address the situation and work towards a resolution that can put an end to the devastating loss of life in the region.
