Prime Minister Narendra Modi continues to hold the highest approval rating among world leaders, securing an impressive 76% approval according to a survey conducted by Morning Consult, a US-based consultancy firm. The survey, titled ‘Global Leader Approval Rating Tracker,’ highlights the widespread approval of PM Modi’s leadership, with 18% disapproving and 6% refraining from expressing an opinion among Indian respondents.
This substantial rating places PM Modi significantly ahead of other global leaders. The second-highest approval rating belongs to Mexico President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador at 66%, followed by Switzerland President Alain Berset with 58%.
This isn’t the first time PM Modi has topped global ratings; he has consistently maintained a strong position in previous surveys. Conversely, the approval ratings of other prominent global leaders remain relatively modest in comparison. US President Joe Biden holds a 37% approval rating, Canadian PM Justin Trudeau stands at 31%, UK PM Rishi Sunak at 25%, and French President Emmanuel Macron at 24%.
These impressive ratings come in the wake of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s significant victories in assembly elections across the Hindi heartland states of Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Chhattisgarh. The victories are seen as a considerable boost for PM Modi and his party ahead of the scheduled general elections in 2024.
PM Modi’s recent participation at the Conference of Parties-28 (COP28) Climate Action Summit in the UAE further emphasized India’s commitment to combat climate change. He highlighted India’s progress toward meeting its Intended Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) and proposed India’s hosting of COP33 in 2028.
During his visit to the UAE, PM Modi underscored the disproportionate impact of climate change on countries in the Global South, including India. Despite their relatively smaller contributions to climate change, these nations bear a significant brunt of its consequences.
PM Modi’s enduring popularity and India’s active role in climate action continue to draw global attention, setting the stage for further initiatives and international engagements in the realm of environmental sustainability and global leadership.
