The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has escalated efforts in the pursuit of 29-year-old Indian student Mayushi Bhagat, who disappeared after leaving her New Jersey apartment on April 29, 2019. Bhagat’s vanishing led to a joint plea from the FBI Newark Field Office and the Jersey City Police Department, urging the public to aid in her search. Presently, the FBI has announced a $10,000 reward for any information that could reveal Bhagat’s whereabouts.
“The FBI is offering a reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to the location or recovery of the missing person, Mayushi Bhagat, and the identification, arrest, and conviction of the person(s) responsible,” states the FBI’s website. Bhagat, proficient in English, Hindi, and Urdu, has acquaintances in the South Plainfield, New Jersey, region. She was added to the FBI’s Most Wanted Kidnappings and Missing Persons list last year.
Describing the circumstances of Bhagat’s disappearance, the FBI notes that she was last seen leaving her Jersey City apartment on April 29, 2019, wearing colorful pajama pants and a black t-shirt. Her family reported her missing on May 1, 2019. Bhagat, an F1 Student Visa holder, was attending the New York Institute of Technology (NYIT) in New York City.
Mayushi Bhagat arrived in the United States, like many Indian students, with aspirations for a successful career. Initially enrolling at the University of New Hampshire in 2016, she later transferred to the NY Institute of Technology.
Reportedly, Bhagat’s father communicated with her via WhatsApp on May 1 at 12:30 am, where she indicated she was okay but wished not to be disturbed. However, she failed to return home thereafter.
The FBI encourages anyone possessing information on Mayushi Bhagat’s whereabouts to contact their local FBI office or the nearest American Embassy or Consulate.
The intensified efforts by the FBI underscore the urgency to locate Mayushi Bhagat, highlighting the joint commitment of law enforcement and the public to find missing individuals.
