In a recent sting operation aimed at curbing prostitution, the Denton County Sheriff’s Office has arrested seven Indian nationals, including five individuals of Telugu origin, as part of a broader crackdown on illicit activities. The operation, conducted with support from the Highland Village Police Department, is part of a sustained effort to reduce prostitution in Denton County.
According to a news release issued by the Denton County Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday, the sting resulted in the detention of 18 males from North Texas. Among those arrested, the Telugu-origin individuals have been identified as Nikhil Bandi, Monish Galla, Nikhil Kummari, Jaikiran Mekala, and Karthik Rayapati. The charges against these individuals include evading arrest and solicitation of prostitution.
The operation also led to additional arrests on various charges. One person was charged with soliciting a juvenile, a second-degree felony in Texas. Two individuals were detained on suspicion of soliciting prostitution from minors, while three others were arrested for evading arrest. Two additional suspects were found to be illegally carrying firearms.
Solicitation of prostitution is classified as a state jail felony in Texas, while soliciting a minor for prostitution is considered a more severe second-degree crime. The illegal carrying of firearms and evading arrest or detention are categorized as Class A misdemeanors under state law.
Following the sting, the Denton County Sheriff’s Office’s Human Trafficking Unit is continuing its investigation to identify and apprehend other individuals who may be involved in prostitution or related activities.
