A chilling video has gone viral showing the panic and chaos as passengers run for their lives after a Russian Sukhoi Superjet caught fire following a hard landing at an airport in Turkey. The incident occurred at Antalya Airport, where the plane, carrying 89 passengers and six crew members, caught fire shortly after landing.
The fire was reportedly triggered by a hard landing that caused damage to one of the aircraft’s engines. As the flames spread quickly, engulfing the plane, passengers scrambled to evacuate the aircraft, with many seen frantically fleeing down emergency slides. Footage from the scene captured the terrifying moment, with some passengers even seen hauling their luggage down the slides as the flames consumed the plane.
Despite the dramatic scene, authorities reported that all passengers were safely evacuated without injury. Antalya Governor’s Office Deputy Suat Seyitoglu confirmed that there were no casualties. “All passengers were evacuated without injury, and thankfully, no one was harmed,” he told Turkiye Today.
However, the video of passengers carrying their bags during the emergency evacuation has sparked concern on social media, with many criticizing the behavior as reckless and potentially deadly. “In case of an evacuation, you should leave your bags behind. Oh lord, after I saw the passengers rolling their bags, I will not think about the chaos in the plane,” one X (formerly Twitter) user commented. Another user added, “Anyone who takes their hand luggage with them in an emergency evacuation should be banned from flying for life.”
This incident isn’t the first time a Sukhoi Superjet has been involved in a fire after landing. A similar event occurred in 2019 when an Aeroflot flight, struck by lightning after taking off from Moscow, had to make an emergency landing, which resulted in a deadly fire. At least 41 passengers died in the incident, with many reportedly delaying their evacuation to salvage their baggage.
The aircraft involved in the recent fire, a Sukhoi Superjet 95 (SU95) registered RA89085 and operated by Azimuth Airlines, was traveling from Sochi Airport in Russia to Antalya. After landing, the pilots issued an emergency call due to the fire, which had broken out in the engine. The fire was quickly contained, and emergency services responded promptly to prevent further damage or casualties.
As investigations continue, experts are emphasizing the importance of following proper evacuation procedures during emergencies, particularly the need to leave belongings behind to ensure a swift and safe exit.
