On Saturday, Taiwan experienced a 6.1 magnitude earthquake just off the eastern county of Hualien, as reported by the island’s weather administration. Fortunately, there have been no immediate reports of damage.
The quake was felt in the capital, Taipei, shaking buildings and causing concern among residents. According to the weather administration, the earthquake had a depth of 24.9 km (15.5 miles).
This seismic event comes in the wake of a larger 7.2 magnitude earthquake that struck Hualien earlier this month, resulting in 17 casualties. Since then, Taiwan has faced over 1,000 aftershocks, highlighting the region’s vulnerability to seismic activity.
