A new chapter has emerged in the ongoing threats against former U.S. President Donald Trump, as the Justice Department charges an alleged “Iranian asset” for his involvement in a plot to assassinate the president-elect. Farhad Shakeri, a 51-year-old man, has been accused of conspiring with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) to kill Trump as he prepares for his return to the White House in January 2025.
The U.S. Justice Department revealed that Shakeri was tasked by the Iranian regime on October 7 to organize a network of criminals to target the U.S. leader. According to law enforcement officials, Shakeri admitted that he did not intend to carry out the assassination within the timeframe outlined by the IRGC. The Iranian government has denied these allegations, calling them “totally unfounded.”
Shakeri, originally from Afghanistan and a former U.S. resident who was deported in 2008 after a robbery conviction, is believed to currently be in Iran. He allegedly hired two men in New York, Carlisle Rivera and Jonathan Loadholt, to carry out an assassination plot against a U.S. citizen of Iranian descent who had publicly opposed the Iranian government. Both men have been charged in connection with the conspiracy.
This recent development comes after Trump survived two prior assassination attempts. In July, a bullet grazed his ear during a rally in Pennsylvania, and in October, shots were fired near him at his Florida golf club. While Trump was uninjured in the latter attack, both incidents heightened the security concerns surrounding his safety.
The U.S. government has long designated the IRGC as a terrorist organization, with FBI Director Christopher Wray emphasizing that such attempts to harm U.S. citizens, including Trump, would not be tolerated. Wray called out the regime’s collaboration with criminals and hired hitmen to carry out these attacks on U.S. soil.
As Trump continues his campaign for the 2024 election, protecting the president-elect has become a top priority for U.S. authorities. In response to the growing threats, robotic dogs are now being deployed to patrol his Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida, providing an extra layer of security.
Despite the ongoing assassination plots, Trump expressed in a recent victory speech that he believes God spared his life for a reason—”to save our country and restore America to greatness.”
