Former U.S. President Donald Trump has replaced the iconic 145-year-old Resolute Desk in the Oval Office with a C&O desk, calling it a “temporary change.” This move comes shortly after Elon Musk’s 4-year-old son, X Æ A-Xii, made headlines for picking his nose and wiping his fingers while standing close to the Resolute Desk during a recent visit.
Trump, known for his germophobic tendencies, shared a picture of the new desk on his social media platform, Truth Social. While he did not explicitly confirm if the replacement was due to the viral nose-picking incident, the timing has sparked widespread speculation.
Trump’s Statement on Desk Replacement
In his post, Trump stated that a president can choose from seven different desks after taking office. He clarified that the C&O desk, previously used by President George H.W. Bush and others, has been temporarily installed while the Resolute Desk undergoes “light refinishing.”
“A President, after the election, gets a choice of 1 in 7 desks. This desk, the ‘C&O,’ which is also very well known and was used by President George H.W. Bush and others, has been temporarily installed in the White House while the Resolute Desk is being lightly refinished—a very important job. This is a beautiful, but temporary replacement!” Trump wrote.
The Resolute Desk’s Legacy
The Resolute Desk, a historic gift from Queen Victoria to President Rutherford B. Hayes in 1880, has been a staple in the Oval Office. Made from the oak timbers of the British ship H.M.S. Resolute, the desk symbolizes goodwill and friendship. It has been used by nearly every president since its arrival, except for Lyndon B. Johnson, Richard Nixon, and Gerald Ford between 1964 and 1977. The desk was famously brought into the Oval Office in 1961 at the request of President John F. Kennedy.
Elon Musk’s Son and the Viral Moment
Elon Musk’s son, X Æ A-Xii, was present during a press briefing where Trump announced a new executive order regarding Musk’s role as head of the Department of Government Efficiency. During the event, X, as Musk calls him, captured public attention for his antics, including making noises and picking his nose. Trump, introducing him, remarked, “This is X, and he’s a great guy—a high IQ individual.”
