In an emotional moment at the Oval Office, 13-year-old DJ Daniel, a Secret Service agent for a day, shared a heartfelt hug with former U.S. President Donald Trump. The young boy, who is battling terminal brain cancer, visited Trump alongside his family on Wednesday night (local time).
A video shared by the White House captures the touching exchange, where Daniel, standing beside Trump’s desk, says, “There’s one more thing I got for you: a big hug.” The teenager then wraps his arms around Trump, who embraces him warmly and responds, “Okay, good. That’s very nice.” The former president then acknowledges Daniel’s family, shaking hands with his father.
Honoring DJ Daniel’s Dream
The meeting followed an extraordinary moment during Trump’s first address to Congress on Tuesday night when he fulfilled Daniel’s dream of becoming a police officer by appointing him as a Secret Service agent.
“Tonight, DJ Daniel, we are going to do you the biggest honor of them all. I am asking our new Secret Service director, Sean Curran, to officially make you an agent of the United States Secret Service,” Trump declared.
As the House erupted in applause, Daniel’s father lifted him in celebration, and Secret Service Director Sean Curran presented the teenager with an official badge.
A Battle Against Brain Cancer
DJ Daniel’s journey has been marked by resilience. Diagnosed with brain cancer and initially given just five months to live, he has undergone 13 brain surgeries. In another White House video, Daniel recounted his medical battle, saying, “Ever since then, I had 13 brain surgeries. And that’s how many times my personality has changed.”
Despite his struggles, Daniel remains optimistic. He credits his father for his survival and expressed gratitude to Trump, stating, “I’d like to thank President Trump because if it wasn’t for him, I wouldn’t be here today.”
