A devastating explosion occurred during the funeral of a Hezbollah member in Beirut, with video footage capturing the chaos that ensued. The blast, which reportedly involved walkie-talkies used by Hezbollah members, is part of a series of explosions that have plagued Lebanon in recent days.
According to Lebanon’s state media, three people died in the walkie-talkie blast, which occurred in Hezbollah’s stronghold in Beirut. The deceased were attending the funeral of a Hezbollah member killed in a previous explosion involving pagers. The video circulating on social media shows people scrambling for safety as the device detonated.
The situation has escalated, with reports of additional explosions involving landline telephones in East Lebanon. Officials have confirmed that nine people have died and more than 100 have been injured in the latest wave of device blasts. This comes on the heels of a series of pager explosions across the country, which killed nine people and injured over 2,800, according to Lebanese Health Minister Firass Abiad.
Iran’s state media reported that its Ambassador to Lebanon, Mojtaba Amani, was injured in the pager explosion. The handheld wireless walkie-talkies involved in the latest blast were acquired alongside the pagers.
Hezbollah, which is backed by Iran, has accused Israel of orchestrating the attacks. The group responded by launching rockets at Israeli artillery positions, marking its first strike against Israel since the pager explosions.
A senior Lebanese security source and additional reports suggest that Israel’s spy agency, Mossad, may have planted explosives inside the pagers imported by Hezbollah months before the recent detonations. The ongoing violence has heightened tensions in the region, with both sides engaging in retaliatory actions.
