Bengaluru’s Namma Metro Green Line Extension Set to Open by Mid-October

The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has announced that the much-anticipated extension of the Namma Metro Green Line from Nagasandra to Madavara is expected to open by mid-October. This development follows the crucial approval received from the Commissioner for Metro Railway Safety (CMRS), marking a significant step toward enhancing the city’s public transport system.

The CMRS clearance was granted after a comprehensive inspection of the new 3.7-kilometer stretch on October 3, during which officials evaluated the safety and operational readiness of the extension. The successful completion of this inspection has fueled optimism that revenue services on this stretch will commence in the coming weeks.

The extended Green Line will introduce three new stations: Manjunathnagar, Chikkabidarakallu, and Madavara. Once operational, this new section is expected to significantly improve connectivity for commuters, particularly to the Bangalore International Exhibition Centre (BIEC), a hub for major exhibitions and events.

This extension had faced several delays, primarily attributed to land acquisition issues near NICE Road and the disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, resulting in a five-year postponement. However, the recent CMRS approval is a testament to the project’s progress and commitment to enhancing urban transportation in Bengaluru.

As the city continues to grow, the timely opening of the Green Line extension is anticipated to ease congestion and provide a more efficient travel option for residents and visitors alike. The BMRCL is hopeful that this addition to the Namma Metro network will not only enhance commuter convenience but also contribute to the city’s broader infrastructure development goals.
