Prakash Raj Clarifies Chandrayaan-3 Joke Amid Criticism, Stresses Importance of Humor

Actor Prakash Raj, known for his candid expressions, found himself amidst a social media storm after sharing a post related to Chandrayaan-3, India’s upcoming lunar mission. Responding to the criticism, Raj explained his intent behind the post, emphasizing that it was meant as a joke referencing a historical context. Chandrayaan-3’s imminent launch is anticipated to mark a significant milestone for India’s space exploration.

Raj’s original tweet featured a cartoon depicting a man in traditional attire pouring tea, humorously implying it as the “first picture coming from the Moon.” The post stirred reactions across the internet, with diverse opinions on its comedic value. In his clarification, Raj stated, “Hate sees only Hate… I was referring to a joke of #Armstrong times… celebrating our Kerala Chaiwala… If you don’t get a joke then the joke is on you .. GROW UP #justasking.”

The social media sphere showcased a mix of responses to his explanation, ranging from users appreciating his response to others suggesting that he was backtracking due to backlash.

Chandrayaan-3, an initiative by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), is geared towards a historical soft landing on the lunar south pole. The Vikram Lander, part of Chandrayaan-3, aims to join the elite group of countries, including the United States, Russia, and China, that have achieved such a feat. It’s a follow-up to the Chandrayaan-2 mission, which, although unsuccessful in its landing, contributed to valuable lunar data.

The development of Chandrayaan-3 commenced in early 2020, with launch plans initially set for 2021. The mission faced delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic, eventually lifting off from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Andhra Pradesh’s Sriharikota on July 14. The anticipated landing on the moon’s surface is scheduled for August 23. The successful accomplishment of Chandrayaan-3 would undoubtedly be a matter of national pride.
