An American Airlines flight from Boston to Washington, D.C., was forced to abort its landing at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport to prevent a possible collision with another aircraft, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) confirmed.
The incident occurred around 8:20 a.m. on Tuesday when American Airlines Flight 2246 was instructed by air traffic control to perform a go-around after another aircraft was spotted departing from the same runway.
Another Close Call in U.S. Airspace
This near-miss came less than two hours before a similar incident at Chicago’s Midway Airport, where a Southwest Airlines flight from Omaha had to climb back into the sky to avoid a possible runway conflict. Southwest Airlines confirmed that the crew followed safety protocols, and the aircraft landed safely without incident.
American Airlines has not yet commented on the Washington National Airport incident.
While the FAA continues to monitor air traffic safety, these incidents highlight the importance of strict safety measures and efficient air traffic control operations.
