CISF Refutes Allegations of Apple Watch Theft at Delhi Airport: Doctor's Claims Proven False

The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) has rejected claims made by a Gurugram-based doctor regarding the theft of his Apple Watch during a security check at Delhi airport, following a viral post on social media.

Tushar Mehta, who identified himself as a doctor on X (formerly Twitter), alleged that after passing through security, he noticed his Apple Watch was missing. He claimed that he followed a man he suspected of taking the watch to a watch store at the airport, where he allegedly saw the thief handing the watch to a salesman. Mehta further stated that he confronted the salesman, retrieved the watch, and later had to apologize for his behavior when approached by a CISF official and the salesman at the boarding gate.

The post quickly gained attention on social media, sparking debates about the security procedures at Delhi airport. However, CISF officials, after reviewing CCTV footage, categorically denied the sequence of events as described by Mehta. According to the footage, Mehta was seen wearing his Apple Watch after passing through security and heading toward the boarding gate without any interaction with CISF personnel. The boarding process, they confirmed, was completed smoothly and without any issues.

CISF issued a statement saying, “The review of the CCTV footage has contradicted the sequence of events as narrated above. After security check, you were seen wearing your watch and heading for boarding gate without interaction with any CISF personnel. The boarding was completed smoothly and hassle-free.”

The CISF further stated that posting unsubstantiated messages on social media creates unnecessary apprehension among passengers and advised caution against spreading such misinformation. The airport security body did not mention whether any legal action would be taken against Mehta for sharing false information.

Before deleting his post and deactivating his X account, Mehta had described his version of events in a detailed message. He recounted how he realized his watch was missing only after clearing security and allegedly began searching for it. In his post, he claimed to have followed the suspect to a watch store, confronted him, and retrieved his watch.

The doctor’s deleted post described how he physically searched the suspected thief and was confronted by the store’s salesman, who appeared to know the suspect. Mehta claimed that the situation escalated when the salesman and the CISF official later asked him to apologize for his “rude behavior.”

The CISF response, after reviewing the security footage, put the matter to rest, stating that there was no evidence to support the doctor’s claims of theft or confrontation at the store. This incident highlights the importance of verifying information before posting it on public platforms, particularly when it involves security procedures at major transport hubs.

Mehta, who had earlier posted the incident publicly, has not commented further after removing the post and deactivating his social media account.
