Late Saturday night, a tragic incident occurred as a driver crashed a car into the exterior gate of the White House, resulting in the driver’s death. The US Secret Service promptly responded to the scene, clarifying that there was “no threat” to the White House itself.
According to a statement by the Secret Service on social media platform X, the vehicle was traveling at a high speed when it collided with an outer perimeter gate on the White House complex, around 10:30 pm. Despite officers’ attempts to render aid, the driver was found deceased.
An investigation into the crash has been launched by the Secret Service, in collaboration with the police and fire departments of the District of Columbia. Secret Service spokesman Anthony Guglielmi confirmed that there are no threats or public safety implications associated with the incident.
This isn’t the first time such an event has occurred near the White House. In January, another individual was detained after crashing a vehicle into the exterior gate of the complex. These incidents have led to heightened security measures, including the construction of a stronger metal fence around the White House perimeter in 2020, following a series of high-profile trespassing incidents.
