Govind Sandhu, a 38-year-old executive overseeing Global Music Partnerships at TikTok Australia, has revealed his stage four non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma diagnosis shortly after completing a half-marathon. His experience highlights the importance of recognizing warning signs and seeking medical attention promptly.
Govind Sandhu, based in Bondi, Australia, embarked on the Sydney Half Marathon, only to face severe health complications soon after. According to News.com.au, he was diagnosed with stage four non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma in early May, prompting him to share his journey and cautionary tale with his followers.
In an emotional Instagram video posted recently, Sandhu recounted experiencing symptoms such as a swollen knee and intense body aches, initially attributing them to a previous knee injury sustained while running trails in Hobart.
“The day after that I just went downhill (with a) swollen knee, although I thought that was because my knee was injured from a stack when I was in Hobart running some trails,” Sandhu shared.
As his condition worsened over four weeks with symptoms resembling flu or Covid-19, Sandhu decided to seek medical advice, eventually leading to his diagnosis of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.
Sandhu took to Instagram to urge his followers to be vigilant about their health and to consult healthcare professionals if they experience concerning symptoms.
“Firstly, it’s important to remember that I’m talking about non-Hodgkins lymphoma and that I’m not an expert,” Sandhu advised. “Secondly, I would encourage you to speak to your doctor about warning signs, but also be proactive and get your blood checked at least twice a year.”
