    Meet lady IAS officer who got failed in class 6 but secured AIR 2 in UPSC exam

    Cracking Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) Indian Administrative Service (IAS) exam is not a cup of tea for many.

    However, there are many inspiring and successful stories of IAS officers who proved that nothing is impossible if you have your goal.

    One such success story of a woman IAS officer has surfaced on the Internet who turned her failure into a fortune.

    Rukmani Riar, IAS officer who failed in class 6 and secured AIR 2 in the UPSC exam in the first attempt.

    Rukmani Riar is a resident of Gurdaspur in Punjab. She completed her early education at Gurdaspur. Later, she went to Sacred Heart School in Dalhousie in class 4.

    After completing her class 12, Rukmani completed her graduation in Social Science from Guru Nanak Dev University in Amritsar. She has a Master’s degree in social sciences from the Tata Institute in Mumbai and became a gold medalist. Rukmani Riar, IAS officer

    However, she was not a very good student as she got failed in the sixth grade. Because of this, she was not able to face her family members and teachers. Rukmani was ashamed to think about what others would think about her.

    However, she overcame her fears after several months of struggle. She converted her failure into success.

    After completing her education, Rukmani also did internships with NGOs like Ashodaya in Mysore and Annapurna Mahila Mandal in Mumbai besides the Planning Commission. This was the time when Rukmani decided to appear for the UPSC exams.

    Rukmani started preparation for the Civil Service Exam and qualified India’s toughest exam in her first attempt.

    She didn’t even join any coaching centre for the preparation of UPSC. It was her dedication and hard work which helped her in securing AIR 2 in UPSC in 2011.

    For UPSC Civil Services preparation, Rukmani Riar studied NCERT books from class 6th to class 12th. She used to read newspapers and magazines daily to prepare for the interview.

    She had also appeared in several mock tests to minimize mistakes during the exam. She also solved the questions papers of the last several years.
