A daring heist has shocked Los Angeles as thieves managed to steal a staggering $30 million from a money storage facility without triggering any alarms. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) have launched a joint investigation into what is being described as one of the largest cash robberies in the city’s history.
The robbery occurred on Easter Sunday at the Gardaworld facility in Sylmar, where cash from businesses across the region is processed and stored. CBS News reported that the break-in went unnoticed until the following morning, with no visible signs of forced entry or tampering with the facility’s security systems.
According to officials, the thieves gained access to the building and breached the vault without setting off any alarms, leading to speculation about the possibility of insider knowledge or sophisticated planning. The LAPD and FBI have refrained from disclosing further details about the ongoing investigation.
Speaking to The Independent, an employee at the facility expressed shock and disbelief at the audacity of the heist. “It’s just mind-blowing that you would never suspect it. $30 million in the Valley, gone. How? Why? I’m still trying to process it,” the employee remarked.
Questions abound regarding the nature of the heist, including whether it was orchestrated by an insider or a well-organized group. Law enforcement authorities have intensified efforts to track down the perpetrators, but as of now, no arrests have been made, and a manhunt is underway.
This incident echoes previous high-profile heists in Los Angeles, including the theft of $18.9 million from the former Dunbar Armored facility in 1997 and the unsolved case of $100 million worth of jewels stolen from a truck on The Grapevine highway in 2022.
