Ukraine Raises Alarm Over Alleged Iranian Ballistic Missile Transfer to Russia

Ukraine Voices Alarm Over Reports of Iranian Ballistic Missiles Being Sent to Russia

Ukraine’s foreign ministry has expressed serious concerns over reports suggesting that Iran may be preparing to transfer ballistic missiles to Russia. The ministry’s statement, issued on Saturday, highlights the potential threat posed by the deepening military ties between Tehran and Moscow. The situation has prompted calls for increased international pressure on both nations.

According to reports from CNN and the Wall Street Journal, Iran is believed to have already transferred short-range ballistic missiles to Russia. The news follows earlier reports from Reuters indicating that Russia was expecting a delivery of hundreds of Fath-360 close-range ballistic missiles from Iran. Training for Russian military personnel on these satellite-guided weapons was reportedly underway in Iran, preparing them for use in the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

The potential transfer of these missiles has raised alarms beyond Ukraine’s borders. On Friday, the United States, a key ally of Ukraine, also expressed concerns about the situation. White House National Security Council spokesperson Sean Savett stated, “Any transfer of Iranian ballistic missiles to Russia would represent a dramatic escalation in Iran’s support for Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine.”

In response to the growing unease, Ukraine’s foreign ministry underscored the gravity of the situation. The ministry’s statement warned that such military cooperation between Tehran and Moscow not only poses a threat to Ukraine but also to Europe and the Middle East. The ministry has called for a heightened international response to counteract the potential consequences of this alliance.

Iran’s mission to the United Nations, however, maintained its position on the Ukraine conflict. In a statement on Friday, Iran reiterated its stance against military assistance that exacerbates the conflict. “Iran considers the provision of military assistance to the parties engaged in the conflict—which leads to increased human casualties, destruction of infrastructure, and a distancing from ceasefire negotiations—to be inhumane,” the statement read. Iran’s mission emphasized its commitment to not engaging in such actions and called on other countries to cease supplying weapons to the conflicting sides.

The situation remains fluid as international stakeholders continue to monitor developments closely. The potential involvement of Iranian missiles in the conflict represents a significant escalation, raising concerns about the further intensification of the war and its broader implications for global security.
