Tragic Car Crash Claims Lives of 6 Andhra Pradesh NRI Family Members in US

A heart-wrenching incident unfolded in Johnson County, Texas, leaving a family from Andhra Pradesh’s Amalapuram shattered as six of their members, including relatives of a lawmaker from the YSR Congress Party, tragically lost their lives in a fatal traffic accident.

The devastating crash occurred on December 26, just a day after Christmas, abruptly transforming a time of celebration into one of unfathomable sorrow. The family had been visiting a relative’s home and had enjoyed a visit to the local zoo before tragedy struck on their journey back.

Their minivan was struck by a pickup truck carrying two young individuals, reportedly traveling in the wrong direction. Initial reports indicate that the pickup was at fault, causing the collision.

The victims have been identified as P Nageswara Rao, the MLA’s uncle, along with Seetha Mahalakshmi, Naveena, Kruthik, and a young girl named Nishitha. The identity of the sixth family member lost in the accident has not yet been disclosed.

Despite the grim turn of events, one family member, Lokesh, miraculously survived the crash but remains hospitalized in critical condition. Both occupants of the pickup truck also sustained injuries and are receiving medical care.

MLA Ponnada Venkata Satish Kumar, representing Andhra Pradesh’s Mummidivaram seat, expressed the family’s harrowing experience, stating, “My uncle spent Christmas visiting a relative’s home. On December 26, they went to the zoo in the morning and left at 4 pm (local time). Their car was struck by a truck carrying two young people who were traveling the wrong way.” Local authorities have confirmed fault on the part of the pickup truck.

Efforts are underway to repatriate the bodies of the deceased family members, with particular attention being paid to arrangements for two American-born citizens among them. “We are attempting to have the bodies returned… since Lokesh is still receiving treatment, his agreement is required for two of them, who are American citizens by birth,” Mr. Kumar added.

As investigations continue into the tragic accident, the family and the community are left grappling with an immeasurable loss, seeking solace and strength during this incredibly difficult time.
