In a dramatic escalation of conflict, Russia launched a massive aerial assault on Ukraine on Monday, deploying more than 100 missiles and approximately 100 drones, including in regions close to European borders. President Volodymyr Zelensky has called for enhanced support from European nations to counter the barrage and protect Ukrainian lives.
In a social media post, Zelensky detailed the scale of the attack, describing it as a significant escalation that affected various parts of Ukraine. The president emphasized the need for coordinated air defense efforts, urging European countries to collaborate with Ukraine’s F-16s and air defense systems to mitigate the threat.
Zelensky highlighted the potential benefits of such collaboration by drawing a parallel with the successful air defense cooperation seen in the Middle East, notably with US support for Israel in intercepting Iranian projectiles. He argued that similar unity should be applied in Europe to protect lives, asserting that “life has the same value everywhere.”
The Ukrainian leader also reiterated his call for allies to lift restrictions on long-range weaponry. Kyiv seeks these weapons to conduct strikes deeper within Russian territory, aiming to counter the ongoing aggression more effectively.
The recent assault underscores the increasing urgency for international support as Ukraine faces continued and intensified attacks from Russian forces. The situation remains critical, with Zelensky’s appeal marking a pivotal moment in the ongoing conflict and the broader international response.
