“North Korea Conducts Test of Ballistic Missile Capable of Carrying Large Warhead”

North Korea Claims Successful Test of Ballistic Missile with Super-Large Warhead

North Korea has announced the successful test of a new tactical ballistic missile capable of carrying a 4.5-ton super-large warhead, according to the country’s official state news agency KCNA on Tuesday. The missile, named Hwasongpho-11 Da-4.5, was reportedly tested with a simulated heavy warhead to assess flight stability and accuracy.

This announcement follows a report from South Korea a day earlier, which confirmed the launch of two ballistic missiles by North Korea. South Korean authorities stated that the second missile likely failed shortly after launch, exploding mid-flight over land. KCNA’s report did not mention the failure of the second missile.

North Korea’s Missile Administration plans to conduct another launch of the same type of missile in July to further test the “explosion power” of the super-large warhead, KCNA added without providing specific details about the upcoming test.

The development marks a significant escalation in North Korea’s missile capabilities and comes amid heightened regional tensions. The international community, including neighboring countries and global powers, closely monitors North Korea’s military activities, which often provoke condemnation and calls for restraint.

The United Nations Security Council, which has imposed sanctions on North Korea over its ballistic missile and nuclear programs, is expected to convene to discuss the latest developments and consider its response.

The situation underscores ongoing challenges in efforts to curb North Korea’s weapons development ambitions and maintain regional stability. As tensions persist, diplomatic efforts remain crucial in addressing the security concerns posed by North Korea’s military advancements.
