In a dramatic turn of events during the no-confidence motion debate in Lok Sabha, Congress MP and Leader of Opposition Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury has been suspended from the parliamentary session for his ‘unruly’ conduct. The suspension motion was introduced by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi, setting off a fiery exchange that captured the attention of the nation.

Chowdhury’s suspension was prompted by his contentious remarks that drew sharp opposition from the ruling party. During his speech, he likened Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the blind king Dhritarashtra from the Hindu epic Mahabharata, stating, “Jab Dhritrashtra andhe the, tab Droupadi ka vastra haran hua tha, aaj bhi raja andhe baithe hai… Manipur aur Hastinapur mein koi farq nahi hai.” He also drew a parallel between PM Modi and fugitive businessman Nirav Modi.

The remarks led to immediate backlash, with Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi demanding an apology and the expunging of Chowdhury’s comments from the records. Union Home Minister Amit Shah also urged Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla to intervene and ensure decorum was maintained within the House.

Amidst the heated exchange, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla confirmed that certain remarks made by Chowdhury had been expunged from the official record.

As the debate continued, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury responded to Amit Shah’s ‘Quit India’ call, stating, “Quit India must happen – quit India from communalisation, quit India from polarisation, quit India from saffronisation.”

Chowdhury’s suspension occurred as Prime Minister Narendra Modi entered the Lok Sabha. Chowdhury remarked, “The power of no-confidence motion has brought the Prime Minister in the Parliament today. We were only demanding that PM Modi should come to the Parliament and speak on the Manipur issue.”

Addressing the ongoing issue of violence in Manipur, Chowdhury emphasized its significance on a global scale, mentioning discussions in the European Parliament and the United States. He stressed the importance of Prime Minister Modi’s intervention in addressing the complex situation.

The suspension of Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury highlights the escalating tensions and impassioned debates within the Lok Sabha, with political discourse often taking center stage. As the parliamentary session progresses, the impact of this suspension and the subsequent discussions could shape the course of India’s political landscape.
