In a remarkable and unexpected event, Canadian parents Britteney and Chance Ayres have welcomed their fifth child, a baby boy named Sonny, setting a record with his remarkable weight of over 14 pounds and 8 ounces. The couple, residing in Ontario, expressed their astonishment at the size of their newest family member.
Sonny was born via cesarean section at Cambridge Memorial Hospital in Cambridge, Ontario, on October 23, as reported by Fox News. The baby boy measured 55 centimeters in length, adding to the surprise of his substantial weight.
The proud father, Chance Ayres, shared his amazement at the extraordinary birth, stating, “Oh, it was dumbfounding.” He further described the delivery room atmosphere as akin to a championship celebration, saying, “The way the doctors and nurses were cheering. It was like the [Toronto] Maple Leafs won the Stanley Cup. It was insane. Everybody was jumping and screaming. It was fun.”
Even with four previous children, the Ayres family was taken aback by Sonny’s size. “I never thought in a million years [he’d] be 14.5 pounds,” Chance Ayres admitted. The anticipation around Sonny’s birth even led to bets among the medical staff on the baby’s size.
Sonny’s weight of 14.8 pounds exceeded everyone’s expectations, surprising even though two of his siblings were born at over 13 pounds. “When they actually said 14.8, we all just kind of stopped and stared at each other, and then next thing you know, it was like – wow, this is crazy,” shared the proud father.
The Ayres family’s joyous occasion has become a talk of the town, with the extraordinary birth of Sonny making headlines and leaving the community in awe of the record-breaking baby boy.
