A tragic terror attack in Pakistan’s North Waziristan region has resulted in the deaths of seven Pakistan Army soldiers, including two officers. The attack, launched by six terrorists on a security check post, led to a fierce exchange of fire that claimed the lives of a Lieutenant Colonel, a Captain, and five soldiers.
The incident unfolded when terrorists attempted to infiltrate the check post in the Mir Ali area. Despite the troops foiling the initial intrusion, the terrorists resorted to drastic measures, including ramming an explosives-laden vehicle into the post and launching multiple suicide bombing attacks.
In response, the Pakistan Army swiftly engaged in a clearance operation, ultimately neutralizing all six terrorists. However, during the intense firefight, Lieutenant Colonel Syed Kashif Ali and Captain Muhammad Ahmed Badar tragically lost their lives.
The military’s media wing, the ISPR, reported that a sanitization operation was underway to eliminate any remaining terrorists in the area. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur condemned the attack and expressed condolences for the fallen soldiers.
This devastating incident adds to the ongoing challenges of terrorism faced by Pakistan. According to a recent security report by the Centre for Research and Security Studies, Pakistan experienced a significant increase in violence-related fatalities and injuries in 2023, reaching a six-year high. The provinces of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan were particularly affected, with over 90% of fatalities and 84% of attacks occurring in these regions.
